Semiconductor Shortage

The recent (2020–2022) global chip shortage – a supply crunch where demand for chips (especially in automotive, consumer electronics) outstripped supply, leading to production delays. Causes included pandemic disruptions, surges in demand, and limited fab capacity. This highlighted the fragility of chip supply chains and spurred investments in new fabs. Automakers were notably affected, waiting for key microcontroller and power chips.
